Weight Chart

I’ll update this page from time to time.

Here’s what it looks like now, as of the 6th of May 2024

Weight chart 060524

The change is very evident, I knew it would be !

The chart reads from right to left, with my first serious attempt starting in May 2011; I’ve been at this a while, and that would be one of the things I’ve learned.
i.e. maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is ongoing, not something you get done and move on from.

The orange lines are estimates when I was going though a downward spiral:

  • Excessive, uncontrollable alcohol consumption.
  • Eating huge quantities of food.
  • Having to force myself to engage in regular exercise.

I’m very determined and motivated, always have been, and even during the first attempt for which I’d set a timescale of a year, I had to grit my teeth at times.

I kept trying until it became clear that there was a reason I was struggling, not matter how determined I was.
That reason was environmental. As soon as I moved to another house and area, I lost the excess fat, and haven’t struggled to maintain an exercise regime since 🙂

There have been ups and downs, and there are specific reasons for those:

  • The amount of aerobic exercise I was doing reduced considerably from September 2020. I stopped using my bike due to being concerned about the lack of consideration from other road users.
My weight gradually increased for the next six months until I got a rowing machine. I’ve learned that personally getting my hour or so of aerobic exercise is a fabulous way to burn fat and lose weight.
  • I briefly got down to 65 kilos. I’d changed my diet to mostly vegetarian, though I also made more effort to reduce my calorie intake and increase the amount of exercise.
For most of us it is really just that simple, “Calories in minus Calories out”
For elite athletes, further gains can be made with nuanced tweaking of calorie consumption and exercise regime, but most of us aren’t in this category and are unlikely to be.

For the last year or so, my weight has been very stable, and that’s what I’m aiming for; a healthy weight and exercise regime 😁
