Eucalyptus Perriniana is a tree of the Sub Alipne regions and will tolerate a lot of exposure. The common name of Perriniana is spinning gum due way the leaves encircle the stems. Often grown for it foliage which is sought after by florists, Perriniana also make fabulous specimen trees for most garden sizes. To retain the juvenile foliage it will need constant pruning or harvesting, and so it is well established that this Eucalyptus will respond well to being cut back. As a specimen tree it is delightful, with beautiful bark
and if you have a bunch of children, then it can easily be shaped into an excellent climbing frame
This specimen below is actually growing in Ennis Ireland. A beautiful tree which has retained it’s lower branches and foliage. There were a few others round about. I am led to believe the entire field was planted with them, cleared around 2018 / 19.
This one at Kew Gardens is particularly attractive with it’s gnarled trunk and weeping willow branches and foliage.
Trees regenerate in two ways:
- The awakening of dormant buds at leaf and branch nodes
- Growing from the roots using lignotubers
Eucalyptus Perriniana have lignotubers, and can be coppiced.
