Blue Mud 😧

Blue mud, Marly is a very poor type of soil that affects large parts of Ireland and West Clare is no exception 🙁

Anyways the hole I dug today to plant the a Eucalyptus Niphophila had Blue Mud less than 20 centimetres below the surface which was a surprise, I have come across a couple of other patches of Blue Mud and the almost as poor a growing medium Brown Mud, both are actually clay and impervious to water which is one reason they are such an issue for growers.

As in the video though the Eucalyptus don’t seem to be having an issue 🤔
NOTE though as in the video I’m not giving a definite, this is a very small area and it might be I was just unlucky to come across an isolated patch.

A few photos of what Blue Mud looks like

The Niphophila, one of the Snow Gums got planted; it will be interesting to see how it fairs
